More Than a Game: How Sports Inspired Our Huntsville Physical Therapists

nesinNews

For the team at Nesin Therapy Service’s Huntsville clinic, a passion for movement started long before physical therapy. Baseball, football, and volleyball each taught our therapists lessons about discipline, teamwork, and taking care of your body. The lessons they now bring to their patients every day.

Dr. Colton Plunkett, PT, DPT | Clinic Director

Colton’s years on the baseball field taught him that progress comes from consistency. Practice, repetition, and showing up all make a difference and recovery is no different.

He enjoys helping patients understand that physical therapy is a process. Whether recovering from surgery, managing shoulder pain, or working toward a return to sports, every exercise and milestone is another step toward the activities they enjoy.

Jonathan Cooper, PTA

Football taught Jonathan the value of trust, communication, and working together toward a common goal. Those same principles are at the heart of physical therapy.

Jonathan sees himself as a teammate throughout a patient’s recovery, helping them build confidence, overcome setbacks, and reach their goals. He especially enjoys helping patients regain confidence after an injury and get back to doing what they love.

Dr. Julie Shoemake, PT, DPT

For Julie, volleyball was about more than competition. It taught her the importance of strength, coordination, balance, flexibility, and staying active.

Today, she uses that perspective to help patients move with greater confidence, whether they are competitive athletes, active adults, or simply looking to enjoy everyday life without pain.

From the Field to the Clinic

Being an athlete isn’t a requirement for being a great physical therapist, but those experiences can provide a unique perspective. Our Huntsville team understands the frustration of being sidelined, the work it takes to reach a goal, and the excitement that comes with getting back to the activities you enjoy.

At Nesin, our passion for helping people stay active goes beyond injury recovery. NesinFIT was created for athletes and active individuals who want to improve performance, build strength, prevent injury, and keep doing what they love.

NesinFIT is available at each of our orthopedic clinics, giving athletes and active individuals access to performance-focused physical therapy close to home.
