As the temperatures continue to rise, many of us are lacing up our sneakers and heading outdoors. Spring is the perfect time to renew your commitment to fitness, but don’t forget, injury prevention is just as important as setting new goals.
At Nesin Physical Therapy and NesinFIT, we want you to make the most of this active season safely. Here are our top injury prevention tips:
1. Warm Up, Cool Down, and Don’t Skip Rest
Before you hit the trails, the courts, or your backyard workouts, take time to ease into movement. Spend 5–10 minutes warming up with light cardio or dynamic stretches. After your workout, give your body 10–15 minutes to cool down—especially important as your muscles adjust to increased activity.
And yes, even when the weather is inviting, rest days are essential. Taking at least one day off each week helps your body recover and prevents overuse injuries.
2. Stay Hydrated
Spring breezes can be deceiving—just because it’s not hot doesn’t mean you’re not sweating! Stick to the hydration rule of:
- 8 ounces of water 8 times a day
- 4 ounces every 15 minutes during exercise
Tip: Add lemon or fresh mint to your water for a seasonal twist!
3. Gear Up for the Season
Time to dust off your gear—but make sure it’s still working for your body. Whether it’s supportive running shoes, or a proper bike helmet, your spring workouts deserve the right equipment. Investing in gear that matches your current needs can help you avoid unnecessary injuries.
4. Listen to the Signs Your Body Sends
Spring energy can make us push harder, but don’t ignore warning signs. If you’re experiencing pain, swelling, or fatigue, it’s time to pause. Talk to your doctor or physical therapist to address any concerns before they grow into bigger problems.
