At Nesin Therapy Services, we often say your core is at the base of everything. And we mean everything. From walking and balancing to lifting and posture, your core supports nearly every movement you make.
What Happens When Your Core Is Weak
Did you know a weak core affects more than your abs? It can lead to poor balance, decreased stability, and compensation in other muscle groups. Over time, the rest of your body can become deconditioned.
For example, many of our patients come in with back or hip pain, but after evaluation, we often find the real issue is core weakness rather than a true back problem.
Core weakness is not always obvious. You may notice back pain, hip discomfort, or difficulty with balance without realizing the root cause. This is where physical therapy comes into play!
One of the advantages of physical therapy is direct access. You do not need a referral to get started. If you are experiencing pain or movement issues, you can come straight to us for an evaluation. We will assess how your body is moving, identify whether your core is contributing to the problem, and create a plan that targets the actual cause rather than just the symptoms!
3 Top Core Exercises
So what can we do for your core? We focus on functional strengthening that carries over into daily life. This March, we recently completed an inservice on functional progressions using the TRX system to better guide patients through safe and effective core training.
Our top exercises include:
- TRX planks – to build stability and postural control
- TRX mountain climbers – to challenge coordination and dynamic core strength
- TRX crunches – to improve abdominal strength and control
Why It Matters
Core strengthening is not just about doing ab exercises. It is about building a stable foundation so your body can move efficiently and without pain.
We’ll end by saying if your core is not strong, everything built on top of it is affected. Not At Nesin, we help identify the true source of pain and build strength where it matters most.
